The Refugee Law Project (RLP) is a non-profit community outreach project of the School of Law, Makerere University. RLP works to defend the fundamental rights of asylum seekers, refugees and IDPs in Uganda. RLP runs a post-deportation project and offers a number of important services to people who are deported to Uganda, including pick up from Entebbe airport, free legal and psychosocial support, and up-to-date Country of Origin Information and Expert Opinion upon request from solicitors.

Jan Consult is a law firm in Kampala, which monitors the rights of recognised refugees and asylum seekers. The firm provides support for deportees both before and after deportation through airport pick-ups and accommodates vulnerable returnees whilst the firm carries out family tracing. When necessary and possible the firm monitor and report on the plight of refugees and asylum seekers across borders due to recent sporadic and repeating conflicts in countries such as Sudan and DR Congo.

Jan Consult also provides legal support for individual claims and legal aid for de facto refugees. The firm has been consulted on a number of asylum cases globally to offer expert/legal opinion for client cases during family reunification processes. The firm works closely with host governments, civil society organisations including refugee groups and UNHCR as a partner in progress.
