The following sections contain information on the most important international treaties and agreements of which Guinea is signatory, as well as national legislation relevant to the protection of refugees.

Guinea has been both a party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and to its 1967 Protocol. It has also accepted the UN Statelessness Conventions.

Guinea’s national framework for the protection of refugees is based on the country’s  Transition Charter and regulatory laws, which provide for the granting of asylum or refugee status. Also, the government has established a system for providing protection to refugees. The law on the right of asylum and the protection of refugees has provisions to protect individuals from deportation.
