Dr Pacifico has a PhD in Social Sciences at PUC/SP, an LLM/MA at Lancaster University, an LLB at UFAL, a Post-Doc at the York University Centre for Refugee Studies, and Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford University Refugee Studies Centre and at University of London Refugee Law Initiative. Dr Pacifico has been a lawyer and a scholar with expertise on human rights of refugee and forced migrants for more than 20 years, with a huge number of publications, including books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles. She is based at the International Relations Department of Paraiba State University, where she has been the founding coordinator of the Study and Research Center on Environmentally Displaced Persons (NEPDA) and of the Sergio Vieira de Mello Chair, in addition to being Full Research Collaborator at the Graduate Programme of Comparative Studies on the Americas, at the University of Brasilia, and Senior Research Associate at the Refugee Law Initiative, at the University of London

Fabiano L. de Menezes is currently studying for his PhD, a comparative study of law, integration, assistance and reception benefits for asylum seekers and refugees in Latin America, at the University of São Paulo. Previously, he worked as a lawyer for Caritas Diocesana de Santos between 2003 and 2010, where he was responsible for the refugee centre in the city of Santos in São Paulo State, representing asylum seekers and refugees with the local immigration authorities and assisisting them in requesting asylum from the National Refugee Committee. He holds an MA in International Relations from the University of New South Wales, Australia (2003), and an LLM from the Catholic University of Santos (2006). His regional expertise is with national refugee law and procedures (Brazil, Argentina, Equador, Venezuela and Panama). He speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.

Henrique Rabello de Carvalho is a lawyer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, specialising in Gender and Sexuality at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and in Legal Philosophy at Universidad Carlos III (Spain). He holds degree in law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro and is a Ph.D. candidate at University of Buenos Aires Law School.

He served as International Refugee Law expert for the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and the United Nations in Brazil from 2007 to 2010. Henrique has acted as expert consultant to a number of refugees persecuted for reasons of political opinion and/or sexual orientation from countries in Africa and Latin America. He has completed expert reports and petitions for asylum cases which have included minority rights such as LGBTI rights, women’s rights, and ethnic and religious groups.

He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association, the American Society of International Law (USA) and the Human Rights Lawyers Association (UK). He is also a member and attorney of the LGBTI Rights Commission of the Brazilian Bar Association, and professor of International Law at the Centre for Women Rights in Rio de Janeiro. His research focuses on Sexuality and the Law, International Refugee Law and LGBTI rights in Iran and Iraq.

Dr Jubliut has a Phd and a Master in International Law from Universidade de Sao Paulo, an LLM in International Legal Studies from NYU and has been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School and a Visiting Fellow at the Refugee Law Initiative. She has been working with refugees’ issues in Brazil since 1999. She is a member of IOM’s Migration Research Leaders Syndicate and is a Migration Research and Publishing High-Level Adviser for the same organisation. Nowadays she teaches International Refugee Law, International Law, International Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law and continues to research and consult on the topics. She is available for information on Refugee Status Determination in Brazil.
